Our Volunteer Opportunities

The Parks and Recreation Department offers many volunteer opportunities. From teens through older adults, the department utilizes volunteers in many of its exciting and fun programs.

Youth Sports Coaches


  • Coaches are needed for Newark youth basketball and soccer programs
  • This league emphasizes sportsmanship, participation, and the fundamentals of the game
  • Participants range in age from six to 18 years old

Dates

  • Basketball - January through early March
  • Soccer - August through November

Hours

  • Monday - Saturday

Requirements

  • Must have knowledge of rules and skills.

After School Opportunities

  • Assist staff with students
  • Assist with students grade K-5 with arts and crafts, quiet games, outdoor games and homework
  • Assist with students on all days Christina School district is in session

Dates

  • September - June

Hours

  • Monday - Friday
    3 p.m. - 6 p.m.

Responsibilities

  • Students will assist with arts and crafts, quiet games and outdoor games.
  • Students need to enjoy working with children, be cooperative and have a positive attitude.

Park Volunteer Opportunities

  • Trail Maintenance
  • Litter Control
  • Painting or watersealing play units or footbridges
  • Spread wood carpet under playground equipment
