As applications are received, the applicant will be scheduled to take the written examination.

  • Written examinations are given every week during both the daytime and evening to accommodate the applicant's schedule. Some weekend dates are also available.  After submitting an application, the application will be reviewed to make sure minimum qualifications are met.  This process is usually completed with 48 hours of application submission.
  • Once the applicant is approved to test, the applicant will receive an email with a link to choose an examination date convenient for the applicant's schedule.  The written examination is computerized and given in a proctored environment at the Newark Municipal Building.
  • After passing the written examination, applicants will be scheduled for a structured oral interview.  Structured oral interviews are administered about every 8 - 10 weeks.

Certified Applicants (certified as a police officer in any state):

You will be scheduled for a written examination shortly after your application is filed (except Delaware COPT certified officers - no written exam is required).  Upon passing the examination, you will move directly to the background investigation process.  The remainder of the application process remains the same as listed in the "Selection Process" menu.  Contact a recruiter for more information about this streamlined hiring process.
