UPDATE:
November 3, 2017 – The two
year old child struck in the collision on 11/2/2017 was treated for minor
injuries and released from A.I. DuPont Hospital on 11/2/2107. The 22 year
old adult female was treated for a superficial cut to her foot at Christiana
Hospital and released on 11/2/2107.
The collision investigation

Original Release:
November 2, 2017 – The Newark Police Department is
investigating an officer involved vehicle collision that occurred on Thursday,
11/2/2017 at 1:17p.m. The initial investigation has revealed that a
Newark Police Officer driving a 2013 unmarked Chevrolet Caprice was making a
left turn from eastbound Veterans Drive onto northbound South Main
Street. As the vehicle made its turn, it struck a pedestrian that was
crossing S. Main Street. The pedestrian, a two year old child, was being
pushed on a tricycle by an adult female at the time she was struck. EMS
personnel responded to the scene of the collision. The child, who was
conscious and alert, was transported by Delaware State Police helicopter to
A.I. DuPont Hospital. The adult pedestrian was transported by ambulance
to Christiana Hospital as a precaution. It has not been determined, as of
yet, if the adult female was struck during the collision. The officer was
not injured in the collision.
This is an on-going investigation and additional
information will be released as it becomes available.
