Due to freezing temperatures, Code Purple has been called for Thursday, December 28 and Friday, December 29. During Code Purple, a coalition of Newark churches, which rotate in being the host site, opens as an emergency sanctuary from 6 p.m. until 6 a.m. The host facility provides access to bathrooms, a light evening meal, hot beverages and beds throughout the night.
 
Thursday's location will be Unitarian Universalist Fellowship at 420 Willa Rd.

Friday's location will be Holy Family Catholic Church at 15 Gender Rd.
 
Those in the Newark area who are in need of sanctuary from the cold weather are encouraged to call (302) 544-0165, and sign up for services with the Newark Empowerment Center. The center’s office hours are Monday – Friday from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m
