Due to freezing temperatures, Code Purple has been called for Wednesday, March 7, 2018. During Code Purple, a coalition of Newark churches, which rotate in being the host site, opens as an emergency sanctuary from 6 p.m. until 6 a.m. The host facility provides access to bathrooms, a light evening meal, hot beverages and beds throughout the night.
Wednesday's location will be Newark United Methodist Church at 69 E. Main Street, doors will open at 4:00 p.m.
Those in the Newark area who are in need of sanctuary from the cold weather are encouraged to call (302) 544-0165, and sign up for services with the Newark Empowerment Center. The center’s office hours are Monday – Friday from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.
