In an effort to address the potholes downtown, DelDOT is scheduled to begin patching E. Main Street on Monday, June 4. Lane closures will be necessary during the patching project, but the road will remain open. Patching operations will likely take about a week to complete.
"We know the road conditions on E. Main Street are abysmal and we encourage drivers to proceed down Main Street with care," said Acting Public Works and Water Resources director Tim Filasky. "The patching will address some of the bigger potholes along that stretch of road, in advance of the larger repaving project DelDOT has scheduled to begin later this year."
The larger effort, titled the Main Street Newark Rehabilitation and Pedestrian Improvements project, will include a complete replacement of the road surface, address necessary ADA requirements, sidewalk, drainage improvements, signal upgrades, curb extensions, pavement markings and signage. The project is expected to begin this fall and take about a year and a half to complete. More information on that effort is available online.
