[ARCHIVED] Newark's City Secretary Named Delaware Clerk of the Year

Two successful elections, including the City's first referendum in nearly two decades, were among several notable accomplishments earning Newark City Secretary Renee Bensley the honor of Delaware Clerk of the Year for 2018. The distinction, awarded by the Delaware Municipal Clerks Association (DMCA), will be formally presented on Thursday, September 27, at the League of Local Governments' annual meeting in Dover.
"Renee exhibits exceptional professional and personal qualities and is a vital liaison between our citizens, city staff, elected officials and other governmental agencies," said Mayor Polly Sierer. "We are thrilled she is being recognized for her dedication and hard work."

Bensley joined the City of Newark in March 2013. As City Secretary, Director of Legislative Services, and FOIA coordinator, she oversees a variety of administrative and legislative responsibilities including public meeting management, election efforts, and record retention and digitization. Prior to her current role, Bensley served as a legislative aide to New Castle County Councilwoman Lisa Diller.
Established in 1992, the DMCA meets four times a year, offering professional training and networking for those who are charged with the duties of a municipal clerk regardless of title. The purpose of the DMCA is to promote the efficiency, improvement, and professionalism for the record keepers of the cities, counties, and towns of the State of Delaware.
