June 25th: Welcome Back to Main Street

Newark Mayor Jerry Clifton, DelDOT Secretary Jennifer Cohan, members of the General Assembly and representatives from The Newark Partnership and the business community will cut a ribbon to commemorate the end of construction on Main Street, which began in May 2019. Beginning at 4:00, Main Street will be closed to vehicle traffic from Chapel Street to South College Avenue for a family-friendly evening to welcome guests back to Main Street.

From 4:00 until 9:00, downtown Newark restaurants and retailers will extend their seating to the roadway to accommodate larger crowds while maintaining a minimum of six-foot social distancing. Free parking will be available in Newark municipal lots 1, 4, 6 and 7 as well as the University of Delaware Trabant Garage and Lang Development lots located behind Bing’s Bakery, Taverna, Pomeroy Station and Burger King.
