The City of Newark budget process is underway, which includes both the FY2022 Operating Budget and the 2022-2026 Capital Improvement Program. Over multiple meetings, Mayor and Council will review revenue projections and budgetary impacts for next year, participate in department-specific budget hearings, and make recommendations for both the operating and capital budgets, along with the $18.1 million in funds to be received from the American Recovery Program Act (ARPA).

"We owe our residents the chance to understand how decisions are made concerning their tax dollars," said Mayor Jerry Clifton. "I hope Newarkers take advantage of the chances to participate in the upcoming meetings to share their thoughts, make suggestions, and ask clarifying questions."

Newark residents are invited to participate in the process and may attend the following meetings, which all begin at 7:00 p.m.:

August 16 - Council meeting to review the FY2022 budget overview

August 30 - Council meeting for Administration, Parks and Recreation and Planning and Development department budget hearings

September 13 - Council meeting for Judicial, Legislation and Public Works and Water Resources department budget hearings

September 20 - Council meeting for Electric, Finance and Police department budget hearings

October 4 - Council meeting for the FY2022 budget workshop

October 19 - Planning Commission meeting to review the capital improvement program for 2022-2026

November 1 - Council budget hearing #1 (potential vote)

November 15 - Council budget hearing #2 (if required)

Seating will be limited to allow for adequate social distancing, so residents may consider the option to participate online. Comments on specific items can be emailed to citysecretary@newark.de.us
