Drinking Water from the Newark Reservoir

Renewable Energy News Flash Website

How sensitive is your palate? Some people have noticed, and some haven’t.

Similar to the City of Wilmington, we have been utilizing our Newark Reservoir to provide safe drinking water to our customers. The Newark reservoir is our alternate source of drinking water supply when the White Clay Creek baseflow decreases due to below average rainfall in the dry summer months. This can result in an earthy smell and taste due to algae growth in the reservoir. We routinely use the reservoir throughout the year but this is only a concern when the weather is favorable for algae growth. Newark’s water is safe to drink, and we anticipate any issues with taste and/or smell will quickly improve as weather temperatures drop and reduce the presence of algae in the reservoir. This WDEL article provides more information.
