Similar to the City of Wilmington, we have been utilizing our Newark Reservoir to provide safe drinking water to our customers. The Newark reservoir is our alternate source of drinking water supply when the White Clay Creek baseflow decreases due to below average rainfall. This can result in an earthy smell and taste due to algae growth in the reservoir. We routinely use the reservoir throughout the year but this is only a concern when the weather is favorable for algae growth. Newark’s water is safe to drink, and we anticipate that this issue will be resolved once we experience an increase in precipitation and the White Clay Creek baseflow returns to normal levels.
