Due to freezing temperatures, Code Purple has been called for tonight, Thursday, February 9. During Code Purple, a coalition of Newark churches, which rotate in being the host site, opens as an emergency sanctuary from 6 p.m. until 6 a.m. The host facility provides access to bathrooms, a light evening meal, hot beverages and beds throughout the night. Tonight's host facility is United Church of Christ on E. Main Street.


Those in the Newark area who are in need of sanctuary from the cold weather are encouraged to call (302) 544-0165, and sign up for services with the Newark Empowerment Center. The center’s office hours are Monday – Friday from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.
