Newark, DE - The popular and expanded Mayor's Fun Ride is back for a third year, with two courses to encourage cyclists of all ages to participate and be active. The courses include a 2.5-mile family fun ride or a scenic 8.5-mile ride for more advanced cyclists. The Mayor's Fun Ride is a non-timed, non-race event that benefits the bike community of Newark.
"Newark is home to an amazing trail system and this event highlights that while encouraging physical activity and proper bike safety," said Mayor Polly Sierer. "By offering two different courses, we hope more families with children will join us and practice riding safely, while enjoying quality time together in their own community."
The event will be held on Saturday, May 6, at the Newark Shopping Center at 230 East Main Street. In addition to the two rides, the event will feature educational and safety information, raffles, prizes and children's activities. Check-in for cyclists begins at 9 a.m. and the 2.5-mile ride will leave the shopping center at 10:15 a.m. The 8.5-mile ride will depart at 11 a.m. Free cinch bags will be given to everyone who pre-registers and will be available for onsite registration while supplies last. The fee for the event is $5 for an adult, while children (17 & under) are free.
