August
18, 2017 – The Newark Police Department has arrested Brandon Bryant after it
was determined that he had assaulted an acquaintance in his home with an
axe. Officers initially responded to the Newark Emergency Center, 324 E.
Main Street, for a report of an assault victim that was being treated
there. Upon arrival officers spoke with the 21 year old victim, who
reported that he was visiting a friend at a residence in the unit block of
White Clay Drive, when he was suddenly attacked by Bryant. The victim
stated that Bryant was in possession of an axe and the victim received injuries
to his left arm and the back of his head consistent with an axe being used
during the assault. The victim was transferred to the Christiana Hospital
for additional treatment and later released.
According
to statements obtained by detectives, the victim was eventually able to take
the axe away from the suspect, which ended the attack. Officers later
recovered the axe suspected as being used in the assault in a wooded area
near where the assault occurred. The axe is described as being 28 inches
in length.
Bryant
later voluntarily responded to the Newark Police Department and was arrested
without incident. Bryant was video arraigned in front of Justice of the
Peace Court 2 and released on $30,000 unsecured bond.
