September 15, 2017 – On Friday, September 15, 2017 at approximately 11:40am the Newark Police Department responded to a traffic collision on northbound S. College Avenue just south of Welsh Tract Road. Investigators have determined that a Ford box truck operated by a 38 year old female was traveling northbound in the right lane of S. College Avenue approaching Welsh Tract Road. The truck failed to stop for stopped traffic at the red traffic signal and rear ended a black Acura occupied by a 20 year old male and a 7 month old male, who was in a car seat in the rear of the vehicle. The Acura was then pushed forward into the rear of a Toyota Highlander occupied by a 68 year old male (driver) and a 66 year old female passenger. The Toyota was then pushed forward into a Ford 350 pickup truck driven by a 24 year old female.
The driver of the box truck, the driver of the Acura,
and the two occupants of the Highlander were all transported by ambulance to
Christiana Hospital. Their injury status is unknown at this time.
The infant in the Acura had to be extricated from the vehicle by Aetna HH&L
and was flown to A.I. Dupont Hospital by Delaware State Police
helicopter. The infant’s injury status is unknown at this time. The
driver of the Ford pickup was not injured.
The Newark Police Department Traffic Unit is
continuing to investigate this collision and no charges have been filed at this
time.
