City of Newark Declares Snow Emergency Effective at 10:00 p.m.

Snow Emergency

With significant snow and sleet forecasted by the US National Weather Service, the City of Newark announces a snow emergency will go into effect at 10:00 p.m. tonight, February 17. Vehicles must be removed from on-street parking spaces along the Snow Emergency Route by midnight; any vehicles along the emergency route after that time will be towed.

Public Works and Parks and Recreation crews are actively preparing for the storm by brining primary roads and paved walking trails. Beginning tomorrow, February 18, crews will be performing ice control and snow plowing as needed. Some ice accumulation is expected, which could lead to a disruption to the power system. The City urges residents to make preparations to homes and vehicles prior to the onset of the storm.

Recycling scheduled to be collected tomorrow will be collected on Friday, February 19. Recycling scheduled for Friday, February 19, will remain as scheduled. Bulk pickups scheduled for tomorrow will instead be collected Monday, February 22.

Residents and businesses are reminded that sidewalks must be shoveled within 24 hours of the end of the storm. The City will determine the deadline, which will be posted on the website, social media and via InformMe
