City of Newark Announces 2021 Water Main Flushing Schedule

Water Main Flush

The City of Newark Department of Public Works and Water Resources (PWWR) will begin flushing water mains throughout the city beginning Monday, July 12. Water main flushing is necessary to test the hydrants for adequate flow and pressure. Flushing also removes sediment from the pipes to ensure optimum water clarity and quality.

To reduce the impact on customers, water mains will be flushed between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Some residents may experience temporary fluctuations in water pressure and changes in water clarity. The City encourages residents not to do laundry, dishes, or shower while the flushing is in progress to avoid discolored water. In the event that laundry becomes stained, keep clothes wet and rewash with "Rust Rover" powder. Packets are available from PWWR.

The schedule for water main flushing can be found below. Any changes or updates will be shared online at newarkde.gov, on Facebook, Twitter, NextDoor, Instagram, and in local newspapers.
