Instead of having the prizes for the police trading cards be for the first 8 kids who collect them, why not have any kid who collects all the cards within a certain time frame (say, by the time all 86 have been a card of the day at least once) be entered into a raffle for the 8 prizes? That might reduce the tendency for parents to spend hours stalking police shift changes and parents/kids taking handfuls of cards from the office, neither of which is exactly a good example or the type of behavior the card collecting should be promoting. It might be too late for this year, but if there's a next time it could work!

I would like to suggest the city of Newark initiate a plan to develop a dog park. It would be a great community project and provide a recreation activity that Newark does not presently have.
It would also keep our streets and green places clean by providing pets and their owners a special place to play and meet.
Dog parks can be found at County and State parks and are very popular.
Fairfield park already has a large unused fenced in area that seems like a prime location with easy access and ample parking. It would also seem to have access to water which could be converted to a doggy drinking fountain!
The introduction of a dog park could be a great addition to our beautiful park system in our city of Newark.

Crosswalks are needed near the Courtyards by Marriott hotel to access the opposite side of 896. From this point to W Cleveland, there is no 'safe' way for pedestrians to cross over. There are no signals for cars to stop, or slow down, or give right of way to pedestrians. Just for a car to turn left on 896 from David Hollowell is a challenge! How can we expect people to get over to the other side safely? Please consider a reduction in speed, a flashing yellow light with the addition of a crosswalk or two, or a permanent traffic signal between the Marriott and W Cleveland. there are many students who reside on the opposite side and they need a safe way to get there once they leave campus.

Every day I watch my fellow students blindly walk in front of cars to get across the intersection of Delaware and College Aves, and the traffic is always backed up as a result. Every day I also have to sit or stand on a bus, 100ft from the intersection, that can't turn right from Delaware to College for a solid 5+ minutes because they don't have a chance to turn due to the students crossing College Ave.
Suggestion: adjust the light timing to allow "pedestrians only" followed by "vehicles only" during peak class times. This way traffic won't get backed up in the right lane of Del Ave and the UD shuttles will actually get a chance to make a timely right turn without dodging pedestrians. Basically, right now the pedestrians are dominating the intersection, so treat it like there's a traffic officer there.

I am a student at the University of Delaware from Fair Haven, New Jersey. After the unexpectedly large amount of snow we received this winter, I thought of the older population and how they might be dealing with the resulting challenges. In middle school, I participated in a program, called Be a Good Neighbor, that matched middle school students with senior citizens who needed assistance with snow removal. I have attached an article detailing the project in full - I think Newark's community would benefit from a similar program!

my "great idea" would be the addition of a sidewalk on Welsh Tract Road from 896 (where there are brand new, first-time pedestrian crossing lights and sidewalk ramps) to Folk Memorial Park. The many residents of the Villa Belmont Condominiums have never been able to safely walk to the restaurants and stores on 896 or to Folk Park. in their own back yard...as there is also no shoulder on this very busy road, the only alternative for pedestrians is to walk in the street and dodge the frequently speeding traffic on Welsh Tract Road.
This is not a new idea, residents of Villa Belmont have been asking for this for years...with no luck from the City of Newark or Deldot.

Today I had the misfortune of interacting with a city of Newark meter maid. After ticketing me for parking in front of my house, I tried to explain to her that I parked in that location to avoid an oncoming city garbage truck, which would not have been able to pass had I not parked where I was. Her suggestion was that I should have kept my car in the way of the dump truck, relying on the driver to not hit one of the cars parked on the road. The best part was this: she said that if the garbage truck had hit my car, it would have been okay because the city would have paid for it. Nevermind that both my car and the city's dump truck would have been damaged in the process, and that the people of Newark would have footed the bills for both repairs. The meter maid's number is 9579.
I have already paid the ticket, all I want is for the parking staff to receive some form of training in how to interact with citizens. Perhaps some lessons on how the government gets funded are in order as well.

The flawless reputation that Newark presently have: especially regarding the small "college town" feel, will definitely be affected by program participants of Connections Inc./Emmaus House. The clientel will transition from homeless/displaced working families to individuals who are avoiding incarceration. Individuals who will be struggling with drug addictions while pregnant within the judicial system will now reside literally next door to those who have made better decisions. Yes, everyone has a second chance in life but Newark is not conducive to assist this population effectively. This is an attempt to inform city government of a "threats" that is forming within the great city of Newark, Delaware.

On August 18th I was driving home at 5pm when a driver pulled out in front of me. Fortunately there were no injuries....this time. I do believe that a traffic light would have prevented this accident. There is far too much traffic on both PaperMill Rd and Fox Den to ignore this. Many people use Fox Den to cut over and save time from Polly Drummond Rd onto Papermill Rd. It is a matter of time before someone else is seriously hurt or killed there.

It is normally a concern on every person who buys the glass products as what are the consequences of having a great deal. Will it worth the bucks that you are going to spend on it. If you want a durable glass table top or glass shelves then try to look for the tempered glass tables. Due to its special formation and more resistance to heat and pressure, it has proved to be of high value to save people from serious injuries. It is the same reason that tempered glass is used in making car wind shields. The shattering into granular form definitely adds value and a sense of security to the glass time that you have bought.

I am interested in seeing if we can start a rain barrel program. Rain barrels help with stormwater runoff, flooding, gardening, washing your vehicle, lawn care, etc. Another benefit to storing rain water will help residents care for their yard in the event their is a water shortage. i have recently moved into the area, so I am unsure of how the water is rationed in this type of situation. However, rain barrels can be quite pricey, especially if the resident is needing multiple. I would like to initiate a program that recycles old barrels or other large barrel like containers into working rain barrels.
