The 5K and 10K Runs and 5K Walk will be held on Saturday, November 17 at Handloff Park on Barksdale Road in Newark. Prerace shirt and number pick up at the Parks and Recreation office will be held on Friday, November 16 from 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. for those registered by November 14. This is a rain or shine event.

Both courses (5K and 10K) have been certified. There will be 10 men’s and 10 women’s divisions in each run. The first 500 registrants will receive a long sleeve T-shirt. Prizes will be awarded to overall winners, as well as winners in age group
categories for each run. Overall 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards will be given for the 5K Walk. All winners must be present during the ceremony to collect their award.

Enjoy Thanksgiving Day morning in the company of Newark neighbors and friends. The Parks and Recreation Department, area merchants and volunteers celebrate our 32nd year of gathering together to offer this special breakfast. Our mission is to create a warm and caring atmosphere among community members, older adults and area students who are unable to share the holiday with family members or a companion. Join us for a hearty breakfast and a little fellowship. This year’s menu will include pancakes, eggs, sausage, fruit, coffee, juice and

Winterfest promises to be a wonderful addition to the holiday season. Holiday entertainment, roasting chestnuts, caroling, tree lighting, ice carving demonstrations and much more will fill this wonderful evening of fun for the
whole family. Winterfest is a joint effort by the Newark Parks and Recreation Department, the University of Delaware, and the Downtown Newark Partnership. The Delaware Special Olympics will be holding their Annual Reindeer Run in conjunction with Winterfest (www.sode.org).
