The City of Newark relies on an engaged citizenry to assist with many aspects of governing our City, guiding decision making processes and providing avenues for appeals of decisions, through a system of boards and commissions that are appointed by the Mayor and City Council.

Open Boards and Commissions Positions



Board of Building, Fire, Property Maintenance and Sidewalk Appeals
  • At-Large alternate – Five year term to expire 2022
  • At-Large alternate – Four year term to expire 2021 (Subsequent terms will be for five years)
Downtown Newark Partnership
  • Retail Business Owner (At-Large) – Three year term to expire June 30, 2020
  • Parking Committee Member (At-Large) – One year term to expire June 30, 2018
Election Board
  • District 1 – Three year term to expire January 15, 2021
Pension Committee
  • At-Large – Two year term to expire 2019
