Following the reported threat on social media of a school shooting at Newark High School on March 19, 2018, Newark Police Detectives immediately began to investigate the incident.
On March 20, 2018, Newark Police arrested a 17-year-old female Newark High School Freshman for posting the threat on social media. The student was processed at Newark Police Headquarters and appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #11 in New Castle. She was released on $500 unsecured bond to appear in New Castle County Family Court at a later date.
No further identifying information will be released about this juvenile defendant. Any questions as to the defendant’s status with Newark High School should be directed to the Christina School District.

Newark High School Threat
March 19, 2018 (11:15 a.m.) - The Newark Police are currently investigating an internet threat of a school shooting at Newark High School which was received this morning, March 19, 2018 at approximately 6:45 a.m.. Due to this fact, there is an increased police presence at the high school as an additional security measure. Detectives are actively investigating this threat. We are working in conjunction with Newark High School and the Christina School District on this incident.
No incident or threats have been observed on campus by police.
