September 23, 2017 – The Newark Police Criminal
Investigations Unit is currently conducting a homicide investigation after an
adult female was found deceased in a residence on Westfield Drive in Newark.
The investigation began as a check on the welfare when officers
responded to a residence on Westfield Drive on September 22, 2017 at approximately
11:45 p.m. Officers made entry into the residence and located the body of an
adult female who had suffered significant injuries. The female was pronounced deceased
at the scene. Her body was turned over to the Division of Forensic Science
where an autopsy will be conducted. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending
notification of the next of kin.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing. Additional
information will be released at a later time. This incident is being
investigated as isolated with no threat of safety to the community or
involvement of university students.
