May 18, 2018 – The Newark Police have arrested Shaun C. Bingham and Josh A. Perry during an in-progress robbery and have linked them to several others in the area. On Wednesday May 16, 2018, the Newark Police Criminal Investigations Division was conducting surveillance of area businesses in response to a recent spike in commercial robberies. At approximately 10:55 p.m., as detectives were surveilling businesses in the area of South College Avenue, they witnessed a subject run into the Exxon located at 820 South College Avenue and commit a robbery. Detectives arrived as the suspect was fleeing the store and engaged in a foot pursuit. This suspect, identified as Shaun C. Bingham, was apprehended on Plymouth Drive. Detectives then observed a vehicle which Bingham was fleeing towards. Josh A. Perry was taken into custody in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. Recovered during the arrest was a BB gun, which resembled a real firearm, and evidence from the robbery. During the course of the investigation, detectives were able to connect Bingham and Perry to two additional robberies in the City of Newark and one being investigated by the Delaware State Police.

Bingham and Perry were arraigned through Justice of the Peace Court #2. Bingham was issued $89,000 cash bond and Perry was issued $63,000 cash bond. Both were transported to Howard R. Young Correctional Institute in lieu of bail.
The Newark Police Department affirms that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
